In February 2011 4 staff and 19 students will be setting off on 12 day visit to Uganda. A summary of our draft itinerary is shown below.

Wednesday	16.2.2011	Visits to: Bulga Sunrise Endeavour and Jinja (source of the Nile).
Thursday	17.2.2011	Visit to Chimp Island or other local sight seeing
Friday	18.2.2011	Drive down to Kigezi High School (KHS) Stopping in Masaka/Mbarara
Saturday	19.2.2011	Tour of the school. Local orientation. Team building activities
Sunday	20.2.2011	Time in school meeting Student Council and planning projects.
Monday	21.2.2011	Joint projects in school – Art/Music/Sport
Tuesday	22.2.2011	Party to divide for the next 3 days to work on two of the following: Special Needs Education Centre Wisdom Nursery KHS activity. Thursday afternoon make way to camping ground on island in Lake Bunyoni

Thursday	24.2.2011
Friday	25.2.2011	R & R at Lake Bunyoni – all day Return to hotel in the afternoon.

Kigezi Teachers’ visit to The Warriner School

From 14th to 24th June. 4 teachers from Kigezi High School Uganda visited the Warriner School to cement the joint collaborative work on Joint curricullum projects. They were Peter Tumuhekyi, Chris Rubaganjana,Wence Munyamagana and Twino Buhungiro the Head Teacher.

A lot of work was covered,experiences shared,more ideas injected in the curriculum projects’ implementation and a lot of pictures were taken as work on the ground was concretised.

The trip to Warriner School started on 13th June 2010 at 9:15 am and arrived in Heathrow at 8 hours and 51 minutes. We were welcomed at the airport by Selina (a teacher of Warriner School). We have shared ideas and experiences in various fields as far as curriculum development is concerned. What wonderful people we found at Warinner!! The well equiped institution and practical work by the students was fascinating. It has been wonderful experience to visit UK and Warriner School in particular. The partnership has to continue.

This is Wence Munyamagana from Kigezi High School on a visit to The Warriner School, UK. It was a wonderful journey to UK and the visit is so interesting. So many things are going on. I have visited the school. The students are hospitable as well as the administration and the teachers. I spent a very good time with Steve and family and they hosted me at their home for two days. I feel so happy now to be in Oxfordshire with its beauty that is so amazing.

What fascinated me were cattle farms, grain fields and horse farms. After the fantastic school farm, the host schools “state dinners” were testimony to their hospitality. I had a rare opportunity to see the Oxford University and the Oxfam GB Head Office.

I have been challenged to do more work with my students on the food security project and on Climate Change effects on humanity.

I’ll miss everything but the potholes of Kampala roads

The end of another fabulous trip

We returned to the UK this weekend and in some ways we are all pleased to be back in the UK with the basics we take for granted available again. For example such things as drinking water from the tap and roads with few potholes (by comparison anyway).

On our journey back to Entebbe we stopped at LakeMburuNational Park – see pictures below.

Following an early morning thunderstorm with some very heavy rain, the sun has now come out. Thankfully this will make the journey a little easier.

The end of long day! The sun has come out and we have been greatly encouraged by some of the fantastic work being done here. In particular, Robert’s hatchery project is brilliant. It addresses a crazy situation. Because, if you want to buy chicks in Uganda- and much of east africa- you need to drive to Kampala. That’s an 8 hour drive. Then you can buy chicks, not that have been hatched in Uganda, but in Belgium! So Robert will soon be able to hatch chicks locally and reduce the air miles considerably. It will generate income locally and ensure the welfare of the chicks. He took us into his living room where we saw more eggs than we have ever seen before: over 40,000 eggs in his sitting room!! He will go to the border with the drc- democratic republic of congo on saturday to sell them. A great project with a very promising future. Steve travels back home tomorrow and Selina, Bev and Nick have one more day in school. House football finals tomorrow!

The sun’s come out! The view from the eco-tourism site at lake bunyonyi. The area has been developed to provide income for local people, without destroying the environment. So, it can provide for today without affecting the chances of future generations. The walk we have just been on was great- the variety of birds is fantastic and the different species of trees have usefully been labelled!
